Firmware updates on certain HP OfficeJet and LaserJet models have been known to cause the printers to stop recognizing and accepting aftermarket chips, like the ones used on compatible cartridges, whether bought from InkOwl or from any other non-HP supplier.

• HP OfficeJet Pro 8730/34/35/36
• HP OfficeJet Pro 8740/43/44/45/46/47

If you exclusively refill HP-brand cartridges, then no action is required since firmware updates do not affect the use or the refilling of HP supplies. However, if you are a regular user of non-HP (generic/compatible/remanufactured) cartridges and wish to continue to be able to use non-original cartridges in your printer, then it is essential that you decline any updates prompted by the printer, and that you disable automatic updates on your printer.
