How to Disable Ink Level Detection on CANON imagePROGRAF Printers

This brief article explains how to disable the Ink Level Detection function to allow you to use refilled cartridges in your CANON large format printer. See our full collection of Ink Refill Kits for Canon Wide Format printers

Disabling Ink Level Detection on the PRO-520, PRO-540, PRO-540S, PRO-560, PRO-560S, PRO-2000, PRO-4000, PRO-4000S, PRO-6000, PRO-6000S, TX-2000, TX-2100, TX-3000, TX-3100, TX-4000, TX-4100, TX-5300, TX-5310, TX-5400, TX-5410, TZ-30000, TZ-5300 printers:

  1. The message "The above ink tank may be an ink tank that ran out of genuine Canon ink or a counterfeit Canon ink tank." will appear on your printer's touchscreen upon installing a cartridge that was once marked as "empty".
  2. Move through the screens, performing the actions described in the messages that appear on the touchscreen.
  3. The printer will eventually ask you to disable detection by holding down the Stop button for at least 5 seconds and then releasing it.
  4. Ink level detection will now be disabled on that color. It will be your responsibility to check the cartridges from time to time and refill well before the cartridges truly run empty.

Disabling Ink Level Detection on the GP-200, GP-300, GP-520, GP-526S, GP-540, GP-546S, GP-566S, GP-2000, GP-2600S, GP-4000, GP-4600S, GP-5200, GP-5300, GP-6600S, PRO-526, PRO-546, PRO-566, PRO-2600, PRO-4600, PRO-6600, TA-20, TA-30, TM-200, TM-205, TM-300, TM-305, TA-5200, TA-5300, TM-5200, TM-5205, TM-5300, TM-5305 printers:

  1. The support code "1730" will appear on your printer's screen upon installing a cartridge that was once marked as "empty".
  2. To continue printing, you will need to disable ink level detection on that color. To do so, hold down the red Stop/Cancel button for at least 5 seconds and then release it.
  3. Ink level detection will now be disabled on that color. It will be your responsibility to check the cartridges from time to time and refill well before the cartridges truly run empty.

Disabling Ink Level Detection on all other imagePROGRAF iPF printer models:

  1. Upon installing a cartridge once marked as empty, a message will indicate that the ink level cannot be detected. Press the right arrow to continue.
  2. Press the down arrow to select Information, and then press the OK button.
  3. An information message is shown. Press the right arrow twice to continue.
  4. Press the down arrow to select Yes, and then press the OK button.
  5. A confirmation message is shown. Press the right arrow twice to continue.
  6. Press the down arrow to select Yes, and then press the OK button.
  7. A final confirmation message is shown. Press the right arrow to continue.
  8. Press the down arrow to select Yes, and then press the OK button.
  9. Ink level detection will now be disabled on that color. It will be your responsibility to check the cartridges from time to time and refill well before the cartridges truly run empty.
