This flag gear kit is compatible with BROTHER TN-213, TN-217, TN-223, TN-227, TN-233, TN-237, TN-243, TN-247, TN-253, TN-257, TN-263, TN-267, TN-273, TN-277, TN-293, TN-297 starter cartridges.

Printers are shipped with special starter cartridges that lack the flag gear mechanism required to reset the toner counter. Therefore, if you will be refilling a starter cartridge, you will either need to purchase a flag gear separately or reset the toner level using the printer's hidden resets menu. However, the resets menu can only be used once per cartridge, so the flag gear will be required for your 2nd refill at the earliest. See: How to reset your Brother printer's page counter.
You will need one flag gear per starter cartridge. Flag gears are also available in a pack of 4.
